The word “school” conjures up various meanings to students. To some it’s about campus crushes, dates, and other cool learning stuff. To others, it’s a grueling place of difficult exams and terror teachers. Whatever weird ideas you may have in that cute head of yours, don’t freak out. Here’s some cool ways to survive school.
1.) ADOPT A CURIOUS, OPTIMISTIC LEARNING ATTITUDE
It’s true. It’s hard to adjust to a new environment. So you better attend school orientation and learn all you can in all these tours. Have presence of mind and learn to navigate your way around the school campus.
2.) FIND A COMFORTABLE STUDY “ NICHE”
Don’t ever be deceived by the false hype that you can get through school without serious studying. You can’t. So start looking for a study corner where you can do all your homework and reading assignments with the least distractions.
3.) PARTICIPATE IN WORTHWHILE, SCHOOL-RELATED ACTIVITIES
There are several school clubs and organizations that could hone up your skills, give you a chance to meet wonderful people and expand your horizon.
4.) ATTEND ALL YOUR CLASSES
It’s obvious. You’re short-changing yourself if you get influenced by friends who frequently cut classes for personal gimmicks of their own making. While in school, strive to get good grades by attending all your classes.
5.) TAKE A STRONG STAND
Be an advocate against illegal drug use, violence, smoking, and any form of illicit sexual behaviors within school corridors.
6.) GET TO KNOW YOUR PROFESSORS
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by meeting with your teachers. They are there to assist you and make school a worthwhile experience.
7.) SCHEDULE A TIME FOR RELAXATION
Periodically take some time off from school issues and relax. Go on picnics, roller-skating with friends, swimming, dancing and other relaxing activities toe ease up your mind and recharge your body.
8.) BE RESPONSIBLE
School is basically a learning experience. There will be times when you commit mistakes. When these mistakes occur, don’t point accusing fingers to others. Instead, be strong enough and accept full responsibility.
9.) MAINTAIN A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Always stick to regular and nutritious foods. Never skip meals. Shun fast food whenever possible. Aside from the fact that it cuts deep in your allowances, fast foods have nothing to offer you except large doses of fats and empty carbohydrates.
10.) BE YOURSELF
You will be facing tremendous peer pressure while in school. Whatever you do, be yourself. Be proud of being a unique individual. Don’t ever pretend to be someone you are not or you will end up as a cheap copycat and lose respect from school mates.
STRATEGIES IN TAKING SCHOOL EXAMS
1.) BE FAMILIAR
Seek assistance from a teacher and familiarize yourself on how the exam will go. Ask for some pointers so you can concentrate on those particular areas.
2.) IMPLEMENT GOOD STUDY HABIT
Make it a habit to study your lessons at the end of the day. Read through them once again. If you have to memorize names and figures, do it at the end of the day while the lesson is still fresh in your mind.
3.) HAVE A GOODNIGHT SLEEP PRIOR TO THE EXAM
Contrary to popular belief, staying all night to study for next morning exam does not do you any good. It will just overwhelm your brain. During the examination period, your mind can go blank. So instead of cramming, take a good night sleep and have a nutritious breakfast the following morning to energize your brain.
4.) TAKE A BREAK
Some tests can be very long and can go for extended period of time. Your mind will surely get tired remembering dates and names, as well as composing your answers. Take short rests. Lay down your pen, close your eyes, and think of happy memories.
5.) IF IN DOUBT, ASK YOUR TEACHER
If you are not sure whether to write the letters only or shade correct answers to multiple-choice type of test, ask your teacher. Don’t presume.

definitely agree on all of that!! Especially focus on getting to know your professors. Go to their office hours and stay in touch through e-mails; they will see your effort to succeed in the class. And in the end, if you have a good relationship and are struggling, something they even offer extra credit because you have shown effort. Little things like that help you succeed in the long run!!
