All engaged couples have, in one time or another, discussed about the number of children they will have after the marriage. Some prefer two kids, others want at least five. The newly weds really anticipates the birth of a baby. However, there are instances when the newly married wife could not bear children due to infertility and this situation has strained many marriages. Too often, this leads to infidelity, separation, and eventual annulment of marriage.

You and your fiance can be spared of the agony not having a baby by finding out before hand whether you are fertile or not. To be sure, see your doctor ( specifically. an infertility specialsits). Here's what to expect :

WHAT YOU SHOULD TRUTHFULLY TELL YOUR DOCTOR
1.) Getting To Know You
a.) Your last menstruation period
b.) Your medical history, hospitalization record or any kind of ailments within the last six months
c.) The kind of prescription medication you are taking
d.) Your line of work to find out whether you are exposed to pollutants
e.) Your particular eating habits ( if you take cigarettes, drink coffee or alcohol), or any other diet.

2.) Physical Exam
a.) blood test to find out whether you have a high level of estrogen, and other important hormones for conception
b.) pelvic exam to find out whether you are suffering from HIV, hepatitis, STDs, or genital infections.
c.) Transvaginal ultasound exam -- to find out whether your ovaries and uterus are in healthy condition
d.) Hysterosalpinogram-- a medical test wherein a liquid dye is injected into the utterus and then X-rays are taken to find out any defects in the uterus
e.) Hysteroscopy-- this exam comes next if your hysterosalpinogram results detects any problems. A thin tube with telescope at the end is inserted through your cervix so that the doctor can take a closer look at the uterus and diagnose any ailment.
f.) Laparoscopy --the doctor will make small incision at your abdomen. Afterwards an instrument called as laparoscope is inserted through the small abdominal incision into the uterus to detect scarring of the walls and other abnormalities. ( This is a sort of medical surgery and you will be under heavy anesthesia throughout the whole procedure.)
g.) Endometrial biopsy-- using a cathether-like instrument which will be inserted into the uterus through the vagina and cervix, the doctor will scape a sample of your uterine lining to find out whether its conducive for embryo implantation.

By the way, it is not necessary for you to undergo all these medical tests. Two or three exams, at most, are enough so doctors can properly diagnose whether you are fertile or not. In rare cases, you may be prescribed with a fertility drug.
