Let's face it. Weather affects our moods and our work performance. On cold, rainy days, we don't feel like reporting for work. We just want to stay home and sleep. Other symptoms of slackening work performance due to rainy days are :
* your body feels heavy when the alarm goes off in the morning and you don't feel like going to the office
* your office desk has piles of unfinished paper work
* you arrive late in the office
* you cancel appointments for the day
* you feel like cuddling up on one corner of your house and read a book
* you feel sleepy
Rx for Slackening Work Performance On Rainy Days
You can get hold of yourself and combat sluggishness in the office.Jeff Earlywine, author of "How To Be Motivated Without A Motivator", Diane Domeyer, "How to Stay Motivated", and Peter Murphy, author of " 3 Great Ways To Stay Motivated At Work" offer the following strategies to prevent slackening work performance on rainy days.
1.) DECIDE WHAT YOU MUST ACHIEVE TODAY
It is easy to get caught up with non-urgent matters that you can either ignore completely or do at a later date. All that clutter leaves you confused about what to do so you end up procrastinating.
2.) GET MOVING
Exercise delivers mental and emotional as well as physical benefits. A brisk daily walk during your lunch hour will boost your energy level and allow you to organize your thoughts more clearly. A change of scenery can work wonders in enabling you to gain a fresh perspective on existing challenges.
3.) DISCOVER YOUR PASSION
What is your passion? A basic definition of passion is: A powerful or compelling emotion or feeling. To help you discover yours, ask yourself the following question, “What would I do if I could do anything at all, knowing I could not fail and personal abilities, time and money are not an issue?”
4.) DON'T LET THE RAIN AFFECT YOU
Never quit when you experience a setback or frustration. Success could be just around the corner.
5.) MAKE A SUBTLE CHANGE
If the job has become routine, look for ways to break up the monotony. For example, you can rearrange your workload so tasks you once handled in the morning are now completed in the afternoon. Overhaul your filing system, and try out new time-management software or look for more efficient ways to work.
6.) HAVE SOMEONE PRESSURE YOU TO KEEP ON
Pick someone at work to check in on your progress during the day. Make sure this person has a positive outlook and that he or she is fully supportive of your goal to achieve more. Choose someone you want to impress with your abilities and productivity.
7.) LEAVE YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Be willing to leave your comfort zone. The greatest barrier to achieving your potential is your comfort zone. Great things happen when you make friends with your discomfort zone.
8.) EXPAND YOUR SKILL SET
With ongoing education you will nurture your talents, remain intellectually challenged in your job and improve your compensation in the long term.
9.) STRIVE FOR YOUR PERSONAL BEST
Try to excel at whatever you're doing. Being confident in your abilities will increase your motivation as well as raise your employer's and coworkers' confidence in your abilities.
10.) REVIEW YOUR WORK PERFORMANCE
Review your goals, and celebrate accomplishments.
